Description

I stumbled upon this patch of nebulosity on Aladin Sky Atlas (DSS2) and after uploading the image here I could search for images from the same area. I could only find one previous image of the object and it turned out that this was one of @Marcel Drechsler's New Discoveries from 2018 (https://www.astrobin.com/378375/B/). Finn's Nebula is an orange-yellow reflection nebula of the Merope type, being similar to the nebula around the Merope in the Pleiades. According to Marcel BE Cam is a variable star so also much of the nebula varies in brightness. I am not sure why it is called Finn's Nebula, but maybe Marcel can enlighten us on the etymology.

The nebula is reasonably bright, which allowed me to catch it under a near full moon using the NBZ filter.
